DESCENDED
Man and nature discard; throw down,
let drop.

In that which falls to the ground, still carry a beauty of what once was and now morphs into a new narrative with its own new sense of beauty.
To descend is explained as to fall, to move downwards.
In these works, I ask you to see that the leaf which the tree has discarded has descended from one space to another space, where a new story emerges.

FRAGMENTS
Nature and man discard which are thought to be exhausted.

These are often fragments, broken off and separated but in the transformation is another narrative to be read; a fragmented beauty.

INEVITABILITY
Roses and fishbone; time and nature and the inevitability of change.
Change and transformation write a new narrative of new found beauty in what once was, and what is now.

I am literally drawn to find the discarded.
It is on this page that my pen draws the beauty of that which has transformed.

NOT JUST A VEGETABLE
Do you often find that what was once taken for granted, when rediscovered, a new story emerges.

The red chilli has one such story.
These works asks you to read the new narrative in each piece.
Beautifully curved bright red chillies romp across the page, with rice, with fish skeletons and leaves that were discarded by nature,
Now read again with the knowledge that red chillies symbolise powerful protection.
Fish skeleton evoke myths of new beginnings, strength and resilience.
White rice echoes prosperity and abundance.
And a paper clip.
A narrative is waiting in each work for you to write.

PHOENIX LANDSCAPES
Like the beautiful and unique mythical Phoenix bird, which was attributed with the ability to be reborn from the ashes, these landscapes are created from man’s discards such as old papers, mesh fruit bags, card advertisements and such.
The works take motivation from the symbol of the Phoenix;
the potential to renew and to regenerate in a new life cycle.
From the used and unwanted, these landscapes evolve into new narratives inspired by the changing environment of the Hunter Valley.

REMNANT
Nature is a prevalent discarder and disrupter.
It would appear that nature enjoys change.
In these works, the narrative is after the disruption, the remnant that is left in the landscape.

SHIRAZ MOONLIGHT
The Valley holds a magic that wraps around the autumnal soul.
These works are a response to that special feeling of summer heat flowing into autumn cool.

WITH PAPER CLIP
Who would have thought the minimalist designed paperclip, would come to have many and much varied meaning.
Functionally it holds together pieces of paper.
Historically it was worn as a sign of resistance to oppression.
Psychologically some use it to represent partnership and even love.

In these works, the little curved object which sometimes finds itself on the floor in my study, binds and unites that which is discarded in nature.
The small yet strong paperclip, connects, organises and creates a new narrative in these works.

Take a moment and consider what the paper clip means to you.
Perhaps you will discover a new story.
